Lany Standford, a type 2 diabetic, died after suffering a heart attack in May, 2007. He had been prescribed Avandia to regulate his insulin levels; however, the drug turned out to be more dangerous than the condition it was meant to treat.
Stanford’s family has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the manufacturer, GlaxoSmithKline. According to the GlaxoSmithKline website, Avandia was approved by the FDA, however the Stanfords believe that the manufacturing company falsely convinced the FDA that their drug was safe.
New reports help to reinforce this claim as it has been discovered that GlaxoSmithKline withheld some vital information from the FDA when the drug was initially approved.
