The Real Cost of Primary Pulmonary Hypertension

April 30th, 2008 · No Comments

Primary Pulmonary Hypertension (PPH) is a rare and life-threatening lung disease, which results in increased blood pressure in the lungs, creating additional stress on the heart and lungs.  Patients with the disease are often short of breath, dizzy, and lacking energy, because their bodies simply don’t get enough oxygen and are working under extreme pressure.  Unfortunately, doctors suggest the median lifespan for anyone diagnosed with PPH is three years.

Monica Sanchez, a person who suffers from PPH, discovered the disease when she became pregnant.  After a difficult pregnancy, Monica began life with PPH and learned the day to day costs.  On a good day, she must walk slowly, do no heavy lifting, and deal with profuse bleeding if her chest catheter comes loose.  She has a pump that pushes medicine directly to her heart as well.  In a day, Monica uses three vials of medicine, which cost $3,000 a piece.  At $21,000 a day, Monica  is still healthy, although every day is a challenge.

Monica’s PPH is genetic, although many cases are linked to diet drug use such as Fen-phen.  If you suffer from PPH, legal representation by Williams Kherker can help to fight for your rights and gain monetary compensation for your suffering.  Contact them today at 866.950.9000 if you want more information.
