Fen-Phen Lawyers Awarded $412 Million

April 21st, 2008 · No Comments

The lawyers who sued the makers of Fen-Phen on behalf of thousands of plaintiffs have been awarded $412 million for their efforts that spanned nearly a decade.  Federal Judge Harvey Bartle III of Philadelphia awarded the money for more than 578,000 hours of work.  The money is in addition to a $156 million settlement that was awarded in 2002 to more than 70 law firms involved in the lawsuit. The total numbers of hours worked on the case is equivalent to 66 years of working around the clock.

The 1999 settlement of the lawsuit against Wyeth, the maker of the drug, was originally valued at $3.75 billion.  However, new reports estimate its value at $7.5 billion.

The diet drug Fen-Phen has been linked to heart valve damage and primary pulmonary hypertension (PPH).  If you have been diagnosed with PPH as a result of diet drug use, contact the experienced lawyers of Williams Kherkher today at 866.950.9000.
