A Massachusetts teenager, Cassie Tessier, is awaiting a double lung transplant that will save her life. Tessier currently has a pill regiment four times a day, frequent blood transfusions, oxygen supplementation, and has a pump that helps move the medication more efficiently into her heart.
Tessier was diagnosed in 2000 with pulmonary hypertension, a rare and debilitating blood vessel disease of the lungs. Pressure in the artery rises to elevated levels, making the heart work harder and less effectively. This additional stress on the heart can eventually lead to heart failure and death. To complicate matters, Tessier also has two bleeding disorders, which are complicated by her pulmonary hypertension medication. Her father died of pulmonary hypertension at the age of 33, which was 6 years after he received a lung transplant.
Pulmonary hypertension can result from use of the popular diet drugs Fen-Phen and Redux as well. If you have been diagnosed with primary pulmonary hypertension, call the experienced lawyers at Williams Kherkher today at 866.950.9000.
