Ohio Pulmonary Hypertension Clinic Helps Patients

April 8th, 2008 · No Comments

An Ohio woman, Carol Dickson, had struggled for years to catch her breath while moving about town.  Finally, after a hospitalization and near death experience, she was diagnosed with Pulmonary Hypertension.  Diseases like Pulmonary Hypertension adversely limits the body’s ability to distribute oxygen, making patients feel short of breath and dizzy, unwilling and unable to move about like normal.

A new health clinic in the Akron, Ohio General Medical center helps patients with the diagnosis and treatment of Pulmonary Hypertension.   Little is known about the condition, leading to many situations like Dickson’s where accurate diagnosis eludes doctors for years.  Early symptoms can be confused with other conditions, particularly among patients with lung and heart problems.  Dickson has struggled with congestive heart failure and sarcoidosis for years.

Thankfully, through the Akron clinic, patients like Dickson now have access to earlier diagnosis and treatment, leading to a better prognosis for all involved.
