FDA Considering Stricter Rules for Diabetes Drugs

March 12th, 2008 · No Comments

Due to the fall-out from Avandia and other diabetes drugs, the FDA is considering stricter rules for testing the effects of diabetes drugs on the human heart prior to sale.

Drug safety advocates are praising the move while investors aren’t too keen on the idea. All of the concerns follow reports that Avandia increases an individual’s chance of heart attacks. In addition to a reported increased risk of heart attacks, Avandia has been shown to cause primary pulmonary hypertension (PPH).

Some are calling the new guidance a step in the right direction. It is also seen as a compromise between insisting that all data is available when a medicine or drug is approved and the current method where big studies do not necessarily start until years after a drug has hit the shelves of pharmacies everywhere. This compromise works to make sure that drug development doesn’t get so expensive that new treatments never make it to market.

If you have been diagnosed with primary pulmonary hypertension, contact the PPH lawsuit attorneys of Williams Kherkher at 1-866-950-9000 to discuss your case and to determine your legal options.
