Phase III Study Started for New PPH Drug

December 20th, 2007 · No Comments

The Phase III trial study for Actelion-1 is about to begin. This phase of the trials will test the safety and effectiveness of the new drug.

Actelion and Tracleer are seen as revolutionizing the treatment options for people with primary pulmonary hypertension and primary arterial hypertension.

The study will have 180 centers with 500 patients. These 500 patients will represent over 40 countries. The 500 patients will be split into three different trial groups. One group will receive 3 mg of Actelion once a day. The second group will receive 10 mg of Actelion in a day. The last group will receive a placebo. The placebo is important becauseĀ  there is often a psychological effect when people think they’re being given a drug to help them. It is important to realize that any improvement in feeling in the placebo group is merely psychological and not actually based on anything scientific.
